Wellness Wednesday - Snowed in vs. Laid up

Many of you are just digging out of Snowmegaddon 2016 but the children are still home,  schools are slowly reopening and you have returned to work. If you were like me when the snow arrived, this was all that I wanted to do:

And just like on Chirstmas thoughts of sugar plums were dancing through my head I wanted to eat everything that I dreamed of while sleeping, good thing was that I didn't have it in the house to eat. And heck what's wrong with sleeping for days on end?  They say that sleeping has health benefits so this should be awesome!

What I just described above is called being laid up, doing absolutely positively nothing.  When you hear that the snow is coming you should not only make sure that you have milk, eggs and bread but you should also create a plan for staying active.  If you haven't noticed there is a common thread for scoring success in a lot of this.  The key words here are "plan ahead".  So yes there are those of you who will shovel the snow once the downfall has ended and that's a really good workout but what will you do while going stir crazy  because you have been in the house for days on in?  I suggest that you look at it as being snowed in and don't just settle for being laid out.  Below are a few physical activities that will help you with your fitness goals the next time you are "snowed in". If you've already read my article Five Free Fitness Activities for your 2016 goal then you can use a few of these in the house. If you need more suggestions check out below.

  1. log onto your daily burn account and select a workout
  2. pop in a dvd
  3. use You Tube to find a great workout on Fitness Blender or some other fitness site
  4. horse around with the kids
  5. go for a snowy walk with the dog
  6. remove the clothing off the treadmill or bike and give it a spin

Whatever you do don't be just laid out.  When there is a lull in your daily activity it's often hard to pick it back up and get back on track so no matter what you choose to do, do something!
