Summer Slim Down - 5 Tips for Moving Past Failures

Earlier this month I made a declaration that I was betting on me! Yes I've decided that I'm going on this jouney to be "Sizzling By Summer." What part of that meant was that I was joining the Diet Bet Challenge where I was putting money on me. My stake in the game  was $35 and if I was able to lose 4% of my weight I would take a piece of the $72,380 pot. I started off hyped! Checking my weight constantly, making progress weekly and then things changed. I wasn't checking the scale, I was haphazardly meal prepping then I needed to travel and thought it would be a good idea to try several resturants specific to the region. Well needless to say, my phone has alerted me that it's time to weigh in so that my weight is verified and they can determine if I'm in the running for some of the money. Well I'll go ahead and tell you no, I won't be collecting but what I've taken away is so much greater  than the ability to recover my initial $35 plus whatever residual I would have earned from this challenge. I'm sure you are wondering, what is better than money?  Well for me I've realized that mindset is powerful and here are my top 5 reasons why losing to myself has made me a greater person.

1. On this leg of the journey I somehow managed to F.A.I.L.

I know that sounds detrimental but to F.A.I.L. means that it's my First Attempt In Learning.  Throughout this process I've been able to learn more about myself and things that I should start, stop and continue along the way.

2. Failure defeats losers and inspires winners

I'm no loser so the fact that I didn't gain weight loss success over the past 28 days doesn't mean that I've lost. It means that I reflect on the things that I have or have not done and try again. I know that I've said this before but in my Aaliyah voice "If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again"

3. You can't live life on auto pilot

There are times when we think, oh yeah, I've got this only to realize that you are really far off course. Anything that you take on and wish to garner success requires careful planning and diligent execution. My pastor has often said "Without a vision, the people perish."

4. Surround yourself with like minded people

If you want to be a success, find others who are successful and be where they are, do what they do and ask questions. Environment is key, like the old adage says "birds of a feather, flock together." Will you hang in parks with pigeons or will you soar like an eagle?

5. Always be prepared to hit the restart button

No need to wait for the game to end if you know that you are losing. Hit the restart button and start over. Reflect on the mistakes you've made, hit the restart button and drive the car doing your best to beat your high score. You don't have to wait to verify the defeat when you are ready to move forward with a clean slate just be sure to hit RESTART!

So stay tune for what's next as I hit restart button!
