Growth vs. Fixed Mindset
So glad that you found me here! I was thinking about a few things that I wanted to share on mindset.
Did you know that how you think and what you put into the universe has a great impact on how things fall in place for you? I’m sure that you have heard that for every action there is a reaction. Well for every thought or word we speak there is manifestation.
At my Victory Board events, I talk about fixed and growth mindset and how they show up in our lives.
With a fixed mindset, people believe that their basic qualities are simply fixed traits, and use their performance to document those traits.
Those who have a growth mindset, believe that their most basic abilities can be developed, and improved upon, which creates a love of learning and a resilience.
So I’m sure you are thinking that well both are me or some of you are saying should I be one or the other. Who and what you are are up to you but I’ve decided to lean more towards a growth mindset. This shows up for me in my need to be multi-passionate. There is so much that I don’t know but that sparks my interest that I believe that if I apply myself, gain some knowledge and keep trying that I can master most anything! This is how I’ve become a children’s book author, illustrator, content creator, treat maker, event planner and so much more! Are these things that I operate in daily? No but because I have not placed limitations on myself I’m able to operate in many areas as needed. With mindset a lot of it is in what we say and how we think, here’s an example of that:
Fixed Mindset: I will never be good at interior design, it’s not my thing!
Growth Mindset: If I watch a bit of HGTV, study these magazines and maybe shadow someone I can get good at interior design.
Do you see the difference in the words put out into the atmosphere? Now I’m not saying that having a fixed mindset is bad but here is where I think that it could go wrong especially if you put all of your eggs in one basket:
I’m a singer and I’ve been singing all of my life, actually…….I came out of the womb singing and had my first solo at church at the age of 3. Singing is who I am! I don’t need voice lessons, I’m not interested in further perfecting my craft or doing anything else…I’m a singer!
Now there are folk out here that feel that way about their natural talent be it singing, playing sports, a public speaker or even managing money. It’s who I am and what I do! But what happens when there is an ailment of the throat or vocal cord that prevents you from singing or that firm where you work or own managing money no longer exists or needs your expertise? Do you just halt because who you are can’t be? Or do you pull yourself up by your bootstraps and learn, grow and flourish?
Hey, who you are is totally up to you but I’m team #growthmindset. Wanna chat more about working in the growth mindset realm? Let’s schedule some time to chat and get things going!
Glad you stopped by!
